Pyrenees 3 Countries Road Cycling Tour 2019
This year AQR had the pleasure to assist 65 Degrees North on riding the Pyrenees 3 Countries Road Cycling Tour. Over 1 week riders experienced the cycling heart of the Pyrenees riding through all three countries that make up the Pyrenees mountain range - France, Spain and Andorra.
Every day riders faced challenging cols, breathtaking mountain scenery and stunning countryside.
The team from 65 Degrees North consisted of wounded, injured or sick current or ex-servicemen and women. AQR were asked to offer our most challenging cycling adventure to help the group raise money for the Hull Veterans Support Centre and the Royal Marines Charity.
'65 Degrees North seeks to help in the rehabilitation of wounded, injured or sick (WIS) current or ex-servicemen and women by offering the opportunity to participate in challenging adventure. By changing the perception of physical and mental disability through the ‘Spirit of Adventure’ we aim to inspire and motivate others to overcome, achieve and succeed.'
"It must have been nearly a year ago that I asked about a possible road-bike tour because I wanted something that was more or less pre-planned and would be led by professionals. Coming to AQR was the obvious choice, and I'm really pleased I did so. As I built my Team, you built yours and the two came together really well. I think in our small way we achieved something most worthwhile, and something that will have lasting effects. Thank you Kate for your planning. It worked ! The hotels were just what we wanted - all different but all good. Thank you Ian for the immense load you took on when we got going, from the bikes to the expert guiding and the many tips you passed on to the cyclists. Thank you Dawn for showing us how it should be done - you were remarkable. And thank you Dave, John and Pete for your hard work on and off the road - you didn't put a wheel or foot wrong and I know the Team really enjoyed working with you.
It will take time for the effects of this huge physical and mental effort to sink in, but I do know that between you, you crafted something that those who were with
us will never forget." - Jonathan (65 Degrees North)
