...please note that we don't stick to a set itinerary as AQR choose the best riding for the group and weather conditions. However this will give you an idea of what you can expect on an AQR Holidays - Portugal Mountain Bike week...
SATURDAY: Airport Transfers to Entrecolinas B&B from Faro Airport. There will be a welcome evening meal at a very popular local restaurant and an opportunity to ask your guides any questions or concerns you may have about the week ahead.
AM: Tour of Alte part 1...
This morning we will start with a relaxed tour of the local trails close to your accommodation before heading to the 'Abandoned Village' for lunch.
PM: Tour of Alte part 2...After lunch we will head past the Alte Fonte and play on the single track that surrounds the area before heading to our favourite café in all of Europe called 'Agua Mel'.
MONDAY: The River Ride Part 1...
AM: Today we head through several orange groves and then on to the local river where we will then begin a fun, flowy piece of single track that follows the contours of the river. After a short climb that finishes with a natural single track descent we will make our way to lunch on the rivers edge before a swim in the spring waters if you fancy it.
PM: More riverside single track before a cheeky technical climb that will take us to a different side of the valley where we have found more natural single track to play on. We will then make our way back to your accommodation for a relaxing swim in the pool.
TUESDAY: The Rocha de Pena Ride...
AM: This morning we head towards the pretty rural village of Sarnadas which is surrounded by cork and carob tree plantations and over looked by Rocha da Pena. The trail starts off gently before we stop for a play and optional coaching session on the Terrace single track. On a clear sunny day the views over looking the Algave continue right down to the ocean. The ride then takes us to the opposite end of the Rocha where we will climb to the Fortress for lunch and more sensational views of the Algarve hinterland.
PM: Following lunch and an optional coffee or ice cream break at the café we will make our way through small farming communities and ride natural single track before hitting an old single track circuit that has a variety of rocky features and roll downs before a gentle ride through the orange groves back to your accommodation.
WEDNESDAY: Day off ...
As an extra option AQR will be offering a morning Vinyasa Yoga class with Kate from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a 2hr mountain bike skills coaching session with Ian. The afternoon is then yours to explore more of the area as you may fancy heading down to the local beaches or coastal towns which we can arrange a taxi transfer for you. You may also be interested in a well deserved massage and we know just the person here in the Algarve to help soothe weary muscles.
THURSDAY: 3 Peaks Challenge...
AM: This morning we make our way through Santa Margarida to play on the natural single track that surrounds the area. There are a few natural obstacles and river crossings before we test ourselves on the 3 Peaks Challenge, a short ride in distance, but with 3 steep pitches to overcome for which a friendly donkey always regards our groups with curiosity. At the top we will descend down a fast switchback descent with maximum grin factor before returning to Sarnadas for lunch and coffee at the local café.
PM: The afternoon offers some beautiful natural undulating single track over smooth grippy rock formations and across a couple of river crossings before descending into Alte for cake and coffee.
FRIDAY: The River Ride Part 2...
AM: A completely different ride today as we make our way to Benafim and then on to the Espargal look out point which will give you a 360 degree panoramic view of the area. A flowing piece of single track before a few rocky step downs that leads us to a twisty switch back descent to the Alte River. From this point we have different riding options of varying lengths and technicality for people to choose from before lunch at the river bank.
PM: Following a relaxing lunch we will make our way back through the orange groves and finish with one of our favourite descents of the week from the Abandoned Village. We will then make our way back to Alte where our friends from Agua Mel Café will greet us with a celebratory drink and more delicious cakes to choose from.
FAREWELL MEAL: Enjoy a celebratory drink, followed by dinner at a fantastic local restaurant.
SATURDAY: Time to head back home...Private airport transfers to Faro Airport from Entrecolinas
