LUCHON, PYRENEES

Also regarded as the 'Queen of the

Pyrenees'  Luchon is an ancient spa

town and ski resort. Every season has

something very special to offer you.

During winter there's a choice of

ski resorts and winter sport activities

for everyone, from the dare devil

thrill seeker to young families. In the

spring time watch Luchon

come back into bloom and enjoy

all the summer activities on offer -

cycling, mountain biking, hiking,

horse riding, donkey rides, rafting,

golf, tennis, swimming. You may

also enjoy Aran Park where you can

see the local wild life in the forest.

When Autumn arrives the mountains

turn golden and the endless sunny

days continue.

All year round there's a wide variety of restaurants and bars open or you can take a 10min gondola ride to the top of the Superbagneres and enjoy a meal or drink with mountain top views. Our guests adore Allées d’Etigny the tree-lined boulevard where you will find French delicacies such as boulangeries and local produce for sale. There's also a popular outdoor market on every weekend

WHY AQR HOLIDAYS CHOSE LUCHON, PYRENEES?

After spending a few years guiding across Europe Ian & Kate were searching for the perfect destination that would appeal to both mountain bikers and road cyclists alike. They both wanted a home in the mountains that wasn't over crowded or spoilt by tourism, with natural mountain bike trails on their doorstep. They both expected their wish list to be out of reach until Russ an old friend of Ian's (owner of Le Lutin and an amazing Chef) invited Ian & Kate to stay in their new home in Luchon. Russ had left the Alps due to how busy and expensive the area had become. As soon as Ian & Kate visited Luchon for the first time back in 2003 they were blown away by how beautiful the area was. They couldn't believe how many natural trails there were to ride their mountain bikes on, whilst also benefiting from amazing road cycling with several Tour de France cols and endless quiet country roads. Furthermore there was a telecabine to the top of the Superbagneres that Ian continues to find more descents to play on to this day. Ian & Kate found their perfect mountain home to suit their cycling needs and for 15 years have been sharing it with their AQR Holiday guests.

Superbagenres Lift Station (1800m)

The gondola from Luchon centre to the Superbagneres was created in 1993, before then it was accessed by train. The telecabine takes 10-12 minutes and gives you fantastic views across the Luchon valley floor.
