 DATES -
21-28 March, 2020

SATURDAY 21 MARCH: AQR have arranged for a private transfer company

to meet you at Faro Airport and take you to Alte Hotel where Ian & Kate will

meet you.

DAY 1: Tour de Alte (approximately 70km)

The morning ride will start off with a relaxed undulating loop of around 30km towards the Rocha da Pena and finish in Benafim for a coffee and picnic

lunch. The afternoon we will start off on the flatter valley roads rarely used by motorised traffic then warm our legs up on a 5km climb and some twisty flowy descents through local rural villages and farm land.

DAY 2: The Salir Loop (approximately 90km)

Today we will be heading East and taking on the Heroes Climb, a beautiful Eucalyptus tree lined ascent with an average gradient of 3-4%. Even if you

don't like climbing you will love this climb as it's not steep and you can climb effortlessly whilst enjoying the beautiful views across the many valleys. We

will stop for a picnic lunch and drink before a long fun filled twisty descent

before making our way in the direction of the old Moorish town Salir.

DAY 3: The Salir Loop (approximately 100km)

Today we will be heading East and taking on steepest climb of the week of

3km. up to the Buddhist Temple where we will stop for a coffee and photos.

The top of the climb offers stunning views across the area down towards the ocean. The ride will then continue on undulating roads through quiet rural

villages where you will be taken back in time and see traditional Portugal

farming methods and more cyclists on the roads than vehicles.

DAY 4: Rest Day

Today is a free to explore more of the area at your leisure, rest weary legs by

the hotel swimming pool or simply eat lots of cake at Agua Mel Café. AQR can organise a taxi service if you want to head down to the coast and explore the beaches.

DAY 5: The Monchique Ride (approximately 125km)

Today is the longest ride of the week with options for van support if you don't

want to ride all the way. The first part of the ride is a gentle start as we will be saving our energy for the biggest climb of the week and highest point in the Algarve. The climb is 20km long, but has some gentle sections at the

beginning with fantastic views of the coastal and rural areas of the Algarve.

The climb winds up towards Monchique, a mountain town surrounded by trees before we continue the climb and make our way above the tree line to the

viewing point where there are 360 degree panoramic views of the area.

Following a picnic lunch we will descend a few kilometres before heading in a different direction away from the coast and back inland on rolling stretches of

quiet roads and unspoilt landscape. The final stretch will take us on a different road back towards Alte where well deserved coffee and cake will be waiting

for us upon arrival.

DAY 6: The Loule Loop and optional Coast Ride (approximately 70-100km)

After a week of riding we will offer options on todays ride so you can choose

to ride more or less depending on how your legs are feeling. We will head

towards Rocha de Pena before making our way towards Loule a bustling town

in the Algarve. From this point we can split the group so that you can choose

to continue down to the beach for lunch and an ice cream or make your way

back to Salir for lunch and have a relaxed afternoon before our farewell meal

in the evening.

SATURDAY 28 MARCH: AQR have organised a private transfer company

for your safe return back to Faro Airport.
